Track: Darlington Raceway
Event: Bojangles' Southern 500
Date: Saturday, April 12th
AJ Allmendinger and the JTG Daugherty Racing team brought home a hard-fought 15th-place finish in the Bojangles' Southern 500 Saturday night at Darlington Raceway. Allmendinger is now 19th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings after the eighth event of the season. Allmedinger is 95 points behind points leader Jeff Gordon.
Kevin Harvick took the victory at Darlington Raceway that had 22 lead changes among 12 drivers and 11 cautions for 50 laps. His margin of victory over Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 0.558 seconds. Jimmie Johnson finished third, Matt Kenseth was fourth and Greg Biffle rounded out the top-five.
“We just missed it (the setup) today, but to come back and finish 15th says a lot about this JTG Daugherty Racing team,” AJ Allmendinger said. “We fought a tight handling car so much the last how many weeks and I don’t want it to be tight. I’m trying to be a better leader and figure out how to lead us setup wise. I’m proud of the guys because they really fought hard to get a top-15 out of the night with the No. 47 Clorox Chevrolet SS. That was all on them. It was not on me. It shows their effort because we can struggle with the handling and they can fight hard and get something out of it. I’m really proud of them. I’m a little frustrated with myself because I don’t feel like I’m at my best right now.”
“Today was a perfect example of missing the setup and doing everything you could to get the best finish out of the race,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “A top-15 finish is almost like a win for us when we know we showed up at the beginning of the race and we were that far off. AJ did a tremendous job staying in there the whole race fighting to get back on the lead lap to be there at the end so he could get some positions out of it. All and all, everybody did a really good job of minimizing damages and walking away with a top-15 while being a little disappointed is definitely not something we’ve been able to do in the past.”
“I think great race teams are not defined by the nights you have a superb car,” JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. “We missed it a little bit tonight. AJ and the team really communicated and worked hard together to come away with a 15th-place finish from having a car that was off. I think that is what defines what is going to be a great season.”
“There at one point the No. 3 car (Austin Dillon) got into the side of our Clorox Chevrolet SS and the damage caused us to fall pretty far back at that point in the race when we were racing for the Lucky Dog,” Allmendinger said. “It is what it is.”
“You can’t really listen to what is said on the radio because it's in the heat of the moment,” Geschickter said. “The No. 3 (Austin Dillon) and 31 (Ryan Newman) were on the lead lap and we were a lap down trying to race for the Lucky Dog – and they couldn’t see how close the other car was behind us for the Lucky Dog - and everyone just didn’t give each other enough room.”

Throughout the season our JTG Daugherty Racing "#47 FAN OF THE WEEK" will have their photo featured on AJ's car.
Each week we post the "#47 FAN OF THE WEEK" theme, with instructions on how you can enter. The best fan submission to us via the JTG Daugherty Racing social media pages will be chosen the following Monday and will be featured on AJ Allmendinger's #47 car during the next race.
This week's #47FanOfTheWeek contest was a fill-in-the-blank challenge. Our partners at Clorox wanted to know the last mess that race fans bleached away, and since this week's race was at Darlington Raceway, a track known for creating a few messes of its own, we decided to ask race fans to send us their responses to the following:
I _____ MY _____ AT DARLINGTON!
As soon as we published the challenge the answers started pouring in and there were some very creative choices!
We will vote on the best of the best and reveal the winning #47FanOfTheWeek entry Monday afternoon. Thank you to everyone who entered, GOOD LUCK!
