Track: Pocono Raceway
Event: GOBOWLING.COM 400
Race Date / Time: Sunday, August 3rd / 1 PM ET
TV / Radio: ESPN / MRN / SiriusXM
While running 12th, AJ Allmendinger’s No. 47 SCOTT® Products Chevrolet SS was in the midst of a multi-car wreck on lap 117 at Pocono Raceway ending hopes for a top-15 finish. Not long after the JTG Daugherty Racing pit crew made major repairs, Allmendinger blew a right-front tire that ultimately ended his day. Allmendinger led laps 75-76 and completed 137 of 160 laps and was credited with 34th-place. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the eventual winner of the Gobowling.com 400.
“The guys did everything right,” Allmendinger said. “There was only one mistake we made and that was not adjusting the car on the first run. Other than that, we were really having a decent day. We were far better than we were in the first Pocono race and Indianapolis Motor Speedway last week. We had good speed. I thought our pit strategy might have worked out the way I understood it. There was just a really big wreck and there was no way you could miss it. I saw it happen and there was just nowhere to go. I was hoping to hit it light, but I got dog piled into it. I never really saw what exactly happened, but I just saw them wrecking.”
“We had a top-10 car, AJ ran a great race, but luck just wasn’t with us,” JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. “We were in the wrong place at the wrong time to get in that crash. At the end of the year, we’ve got to be in the top-25 in the points. Everybody did what they had to do today to try to keep us on track for that. It’s just one of his tires blew as we were trying to get as many points as we could. I’m proud because this weekend was a big improvement over Indy. We’re getting to be a better race team.”
