NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY RECAP:

Approaching lap 50 Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Bobby Labonte had made his way from 28th to 19th before his left rear tire blew out sending him into the retaining wall during the Sylvania 300. Labonte, who is recovering from three broken ribs due to a cycling accident, was treated and released from the infield care center as the JTG Daugherty Racing pit crew worked rapidly to repair the No. 47 BUSH’S Beans Toyota Camry in approximately a hundred laps. The 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion returned to the track with a battered machine to be credited with a 40th-place finish in the 300-lap event after completing 161 laps. Matt Kenseth beat Kyle Busch for the victory.

QUOTES:

“I feel good,” Labonte said. “The left rear tire went down and the car hit the wall, but it didn’t hit it that hard to hurt. I’m fine. I think the tire might have been going soft for a couple laps. I came off of the turn, got back in the gas and then I felt it go boom. I tried to get off the track as soon as I could because I didn’t want to mess it up.

“My team did a great job of getting us back out there to pick up a few spots,” continued Labonte. “The left rear just blew out on us. The car wasn’t that bad before that happened. It started the race out really loose in and up off the corners, but we were trying to make some gains on it. It’s a shame that happened. We had made our way up to 19th and probably were going to have a decent day.”

“We didn’t really get to see what we had,” JTG Daugherty Racing competition director Bobby Hutchens said. “We cut down a tire and that pretty much ended our day unfortunately. We had to take a lot of laps behind the wall to repair the car enough for Bobby to be able to drive it. It is unfortunate our day ended that way.”

“For how tore up the car was, we have a strong team that was able to get it fixed for Bobby,” JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. “We had worked our way up to the top 20 and we were going to have a good day before the tire let go. It was so shredded it was hard to tell what happened there.”

TAILGATER OF THE YEAR:

Throughout the 2013 NASCAR race season, JTG Daugherty Racing and our drivers, Bobby Labonte and AJ Allmendinger have searched the campgrounds at each race track looking for the best tailgaters. Now that the regular NASCAR season has ended, we have chosen our 24 weekly winners and are launching the “Tailgater of the Year” fan-vote today (and every subsequent Tuesday) at 10am EST.

It is YOUR turn to decide who wins our “Tailgater of the Year” contest and the grand prize of an all-expense paid trip to the 2014 Las Vegas Race as a guest of JTG Daugherty Racing!

The quarter-finalists were determined over the last 26 races as we scoured the camp grounds looking for our weekly favorite tailgater. Visit our contest page and help vote your favorite tailgater into the next round!

Our round-one winner and our first semi-finalist was Jeanine Brinkerhoff who had a great tailgate setup at the Las Vegas race back in March.

Be sure to vote for your favorite once per week to help them win a trip to Las Vegas! http://a.pgtb.me/ZcZsLD
