With seven laps to go and AJ Allmendinger running fourth, the No. 3 Chevy of Austin Dillon got loose and made contact with the No. 47 Kroger ClickList Chevrolet SS. The contact caused a left rear tire rub forcing Allmendinger to pit road, which ultimately ended the team's chances for a transfer spot into the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star race.
"The 3 car got loose under me and got into us," Allmendinger said. "At that point you're night's over because you are going to pit and be a lap down. There's no way to get that back and make your way to the front in a 10-lap segment. You're not going to have chance to move on anyway. So, our night was done unfortunately.
"I thought yesterday went well," Allmendinger continued. "You're always trying to predict what the track is going to do the next day. I thought the front end was really good yesterday. We kind of tightened the car up and lost a little bit of front end feel. During the first run, the Kroger ClickList Chevy was loose-in and the car wouldn't turn as much. That second adjustment was a lot better for the rear, but hurt the front a little more. We were just too tight to go compete with the real fast cars. I thought we learned some stuff. We still need a little bit better to get with those fast cars, but I thought we were relatively closer than where we've been speed wise. So, it's something we can learn from going into next week."
