Track: Atlanta Motor Speedway

Date: Sunday, March 1
Start: 11th
Finish: 7th
Points: 8th

"Solid, but seventh-place is probably just a tick better than we deserved," Allmendinger said. "I thought we were a 10th to 13th place car.  I just fought a  little bit too loose all day, but we were on the lead lap and my guys did a great job.  My pit crew, Michael Klein, the jack man that leads this pit crew, he really worked with these guys last year. The pit stops were awesome. To come to Atlanta, which is the home of Southeastern Mills and have Better Than Bouillon on the car along with Kingsford, Clorox, SCOTT Products, Hungry Jack - all the sponsors that we have - Shore Lunch, BUSH’S Beans and to get a top-10 finish for them early in the season is pretty cool.

“There was a lot of carnage out there and we probably got a little bit lucky from that,” Allmendinger continued. “Compared to where we were last year on mile-and-a-half track, I’m just proud of everybody on this No. 47 JTG Daugherty Racing team and everybody at RCR (Richard Childress Racing) and the whole alliance and ECR Engines. We’re gaining on it. I think I have to get better at driving this package for sure. I struggled all weekend trying to get better and better - - learning how to drive it. To have Better Than Bouillon on the car for Southeastern Mills - it’s a home base for them – is big for us to get them a top-10 finish. It's important. Atlanta is different than a lot of these places. Any time you can get a good finish early in the season it’s a pretty big deal. I think it took us race six or seven to even get inside the top-20 last year. Seventh is probably better than we deserved, but we stayed on the lead lap all day and deserved a top-10, top-13 finish.
"My crew chief Brian Burns says I’m not smart enough to have one in there right now," Allmendinger joked about the new adjustable track bar tool. "We never had one all weekend. We were letting everybody get the bugs worked out of it.  I don’t like having it in there because it gives me one less excuse to yell at my crew chief about why my car is not very good (laughs).  We will work on that. We will keep tuning that with RCR and the whole alliance.  ECR the motors were awesome today.  We will keep digging on it and just build momentum going into Vegas.”
