Race: Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500
Date/Time: Sunday, November 1st / 1:15 PM ET

Fan of Martinsville: “I love short track racing and Martinsville Speedway is a place I love,” Allmendinger said. “I’ve always enjoyed it.  It’s a lot of fun. However, it is a physically demanding race because you are on and off the brakes for 500 laps and your legs get worn out. It’s also a mentally draining race as well.  I’ve been there where you feel like you don’t do anything wrong for 480 laps and you think you are going to have a solid finish and a late race caution comes out and you get jacked on the restart and get crashed.  For 480 laps of doing nothing wrong and running up near the front, turns into a 35th-place finish.  So, that’s a tough place mentally because it’s not done until you cross the finish line with the No. 47 Kroger / Clorox Chevrolet SS and take that checkered flag.”

Physically and mentally challenging: “It’s just one of those places where it’s hard on the left leg using a lot of brake pedal and on the mental side it is almost like a superspeedway because you can’t let your guard down no matter what happens until the checkered flag falls,” Allmendinger said.

Making it to the end: “You don’t know if you are really going to make it to the end you know,” Allmendinger said. “Like I’ve said before, it’s one of those places you can do everything right for 495 laps and somebody gets into you and ruins your race.”

Get in the rhythm: “I always say it’s really a rhythm place,” Allmendinger said. “You have got to take a good car there and get into a rhythm about letting the No. 47 Kroger / Clorox Chevrolet SS roll through the corner.”

Remaining calm: “It’s a place I have always enjoyed,” Allmendinger said. “We’ve had good runs there, but it’s just a place that makes it tough for 500 laps mentally just to be calm. I mean you get run into a lot. You can get into a battle with somebody real quick about being angry with them and mess both of your races up.”

Tough track: “It’s a tough place in a lot of ways,” Allmendinger said. “The last couple of times there we’ve had a really good car. We had a top five car in the spring and had a mechanical problem that ended our day. It’s disappointing because I would have liked to see how that race would have played out. I thought we definitely had a top five car and thought we had a shot at a win there. It’s one of those things where you have to move forward.”
What matters the most: “It’s really important to stay calm and take care of yourself because it’s tight racing and frustrations are high with the way that track is,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “So, taking care of your equipment to the end is what really matters. It is a finesse track and you don’t want to overdrive the car and you have to take care of your brakes. Also, you have to focus on not being involved in anyone else’s misfortune and keep the nose clean on the No. 47 Kroger / Clorox Chevrolet SS.”

Earlier this year: “Martinsville Speedway is always a track we look forward too,” Burns said. “The first race there this year, we felt like we had a car that was capable of winning the race until we had a mechanical problem.”

Confidence:  “We feel really confident about the setup we are unloading with this weekend,” Burns said. "And, this is one of those tracks that seems to play into AJ’s driving style and it’s a place where we’ve always been strong. Combine the two together and we have high expectations.”

Chassis: “We’re bringing the same car we had there last time that we ran really well with and that’s 505,” Burns said.
